Daniel Dennett
The MPI is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Daniel Dennett (1942-2024), Professor of Philosophy and Co-Director of the Centre for Cognitive Studies at Tufts University. Dennett was internationally renowned for his many groundbreaking contributions to the philosophy of mind, of science, and of biology.

In October 2018 Dennett delivered the Nijmegen Lectures, our flagship lecture and discussion series, co-hosted by the MPI, the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and Centre for Language Studies of Radboud University. Following his lectures - on autonomy and consciousness, and the role of language in human consciousness - he was also awarded that same week with an Honorary Doctorate from Radboud University.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
